Code of Conduct

We value Final Three Con being a place where all people can feel safe, respected, and welcome. We encourage con attendees to act thoughtfully and remember that they are part of a community with their fellow attendees. Harassment in any form will not be tolerated. If you feel unsafe or harassed or notice that someone else may feel this way, we encourage you to report it as soon as you can. Beyond reporting, each of us can make a difference in fostering a caring and mindful community: please feel empowered to stand up for your fellow con-goers and say something if you feel that the spirit of our Code of Conduct is being violated.

You can create a report by either submitting one through this reporting form or by contacting any convention team member in a Final Three Con Volunteer shirt. If you are unclear on what constitutes reportable behavior, please see our full harassment policy below.

Everyone who participates in Final Three Con in any capacity agrees to abide by this Code of Conduct. This includes behavior and conduct before, during, and after the Con, as well as in convention spaces, online spaces and other Final Three Con related events.

Anyone who violates our Code of Conduct may be sanctioned, removed, and/or banned from this event, and potentially banned from future Final Three, LLC. events. Except where immediate removal is necessary to protect attendee safety, the Leadership Team will make reasonable efforts to inform the individual of the concern and the basis for any sanction, and a decision may be appealed to a senior Leadership Team member not involved in the original decision.

Our team will be happy to help you contact hotel/venue security, local support services, local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist you to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance and safety above all else.

Rules of the convention:

  1. You must wear your convention badge at all times to be admitted to any convention space.
  2. Harassment will not be tolerated. See our full Harassment Policy below for how reports are handled and enforced.

  6. All activities at the convention are subject to change, however, every effort will be made to notify guests of these changes in advance.
  7. This convention has a NO WEAPONS policy that will be enforced:
    • For purposes of this policy, a “real weapon” means any firearm, blade, or other item capable of inflicting injury in its current or a readily-restorable functional state, regardless of whether it is loaded, charged, or otherwise active.
    • All weapons that are part of cosplay must be non-functioning, possession of a real gun, even not functional, is not allowed at the convention.

    • Convention staff must visually inspect any cosplay weapon or prop at information desk to confirm compliance with this policy.  Approved weapons will be tagged.
    • Convention security and local law enforcement will treat anything that looks like a real weapon accordingly.
    • Attendees who choose to ignore this policy will be asked to leave and have their badge revoked.
    • Violators can also be arrested. Final Three Con will not post bail.

Harassment Policy

Final Three Con is dedicated to providing a harassment-free event experience for everyone, regardless of gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, age, or religion. We expect that all event attendees will act in accordance with these values that we strive to uphold and will do their best to foster a sense of community and mutual respect. We do not tolerate harassment in any form. Attendees violating these policies may be expelled from the convention without a refund at the discretion of the convention organizers. All attendees are expected to adhere to the following:

  1. Attendees asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately.
  2. If an attendee engages in harassing behavior, event organizers retain the right to take any action that maintains the safety, security, and enjoyment of all attendees. Actions taken against offenders may include, but are not limited to a warning, expulsion from the convention [without a refund], and potentially being banned from future Final Three Con events.
  3. Event organizers may take action to redress anything designed to, or with the clear impact of, disrupting the event or making the environment hostile for any attendees.
  4. We expect attendees to follow these rules at all event venues and event-sponsored social activities.

Harassment can include, but not be limited to:

These examples are evaluated using a reasonable-person standard, taking into account context, intent, and whether the behavior is part of a pattern.

  • Continued one-on-one communication after requests to cease.
  • Targeted or close-up photography or recording of an individual without their consent (as distinct from general photography of convention spaces, which is permitted — see our Photography & Media Policy below), or the manipulation of photographs or recordings made with the intention to offend, intimidate, embarrass, or demean.
  • Verbal, written, or social media comments that offend, intimidate, embarrass, or demean, including those that reinforce social structures of prejudice or domination regarding race,  ethnicity, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, physical appearance, body size, sexual orientation, mental illness, neurotype, language, disability, or age.
  • Publication of non-harassing private communication without consent by the involved parties.
  • Deliberate misgendering or use of ‘dead’ or rejected names.
  • Deliberate “outing” of any aspect of a person’s identity without their consent.
  • Threats of violence regardless of severity.
  • Incitement of violence towards any individual or group, including encouraging a person to commit suicide or to engage in self-harm.
  • Pattern of inappropriate social contact, such as requesting/assuming inappropriate levels of intimacy with others.
  • Gratuitous or off-topic sexual images or behavior in spaces where they’re not appropriate.
  • Stalking, following, or unwelcome attention, either in person or through another medium, such as online.

  • Any other behavior designed to disrupt events or attendees’ enjoyment of events.

We prioritize marginalized people’s safety over non-marginalized people’s comfort. Final Three Con recognizes that unacceptable behavior can come in many forms and reserves the right to act in accordance with our values. This reflects our values and does not create an entitlement to a specific outcome in any individual case; all reports are reviewed case-by-case and consistent with applicable law and this policy.

Final Three Con reserves the right not to act on complaints regarding:

  1. ‘Reverse’ -isms, including ‘reverse racism,’ ‘reverse sexism,’ and ‘cisphobia.’
  2. Reasonable communication of boundaries, such as “leave me alone,” “go away,” or “I’m not discussing this with you.”
  3. Communicating in a tone you don’t find congenial.
  4. Criticizing racist, sexist, cissexist, ageist, ablelist, or otherwise oppressive behavior or assumptions.
  5. Bad faith complaints of any kind.
Reporting:

If someone makes you or anyone else feel unsafe or unwelcome, please report it as soon as possible to a Final Three Con team member, in person or online. Convention volunteers can be identified by Final Three Con Volunteer shirts. Harassment and other Code of Conduct violations reduce the value of our event for everyone. We want you to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience at all Final Three events. People like you make our events better.

Make a report by either:

  • Submitting an anonymous report online here.
  • Contacting a convention team member, identified by Final Three Con Volunteer shirts.

When taking a personal report, our team will ensure you are safe and cannot be overheard. They may involve other event volunteers to ensure your report is managed properly. Once safe, we will ask you to tell us about what happened. This can be upsetting, but we’ll handle it respectfully, and you are free to have a friend present for support. You will not be asked to confront anyone, and we will not tell anyone who you are.

Where possible, a member of the Leadership Team will acknowledge your report within 48 hours. Reports are investigated promptly, and information gathered is shared only with those who need it to address the report. Outcomes are communicated to the reporting party to the extent appropriate and consistent with the privacy of everyone involved. If you disagree with the outcome of a report, you may request review by a senior Leadership Team member who was not involved in the original decision.

Our team will be happy to help you contact hotel/venue security, local support services, local law enforcement, provide escorts, or otherwise assist you to feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance and safety above all else.

Summary:
  • Be polite, respectful, and considerate.
  • Look out for each other.
  • Don’t be mean or hurtful. Don’t assume harmful intent.
  • Take action and report any problems that arise.
