For those who are storytelling or running scheduled events at the con, we have a few things to be aware of/keep in mind.
If you’re running Pickup Games, be sure to check out our Pickup Game Guidelines.
Scheduled Games
If you’re running a scheduled game you’ll need to stop by Events HQ and pick up a check-in sheet. It will be a print out of your game with a list of your players. We will have these organized by game start time so that if you’re using your own grimoire you can simply grab it and head to your circle. The sheet will reiterate all the information about your event and will also help the con track player counts, scripts run, attendance, and more.
Once your game is done just drop the completed sheet in a basket at Events HQ.
If you’d like to take a look at your games, or view the list of players in your games, be sure to visit the My Events page to see the list of games your storytelling. (Pro-Tip: Take a screenshot of your schedule or pop your events into your phone’s calendar!)
Grimoire / Token / Script Checkout
If you’re storytelling a game and need to borrow a grimoire, KS tokens, or copies of scripts, you can check them out at Events HQ!
If checking out multiple items you will definitely want to show up 5 minutes before your event if possible. In exchange for an item of collateral (driver’s license, passport, student ID) we’ll happily hand out your items and you’ll get your collateral back when they’re returned. Events HQ volunteers will help you with checking in and out your items and inventory them after they’re returned, so no worries if you have to run off to join a new game.
Remaining, released, but non-KS tokens: We’ve had a couple of questions from folks about the additional non-KS, released character – things like Widow, Goblin and Organ Grinder. While we’re going to try out best to get copies of the tokens for use at the con, we recommend everyone be prepared to use substitutions. If we have handmade tokens on hand, we’ll have them available for checkout.
Custom Scripts we will have on hand:
- Catfishing by Emily
- Half the 108 by Jack
- Pass the Stars at the Feast by Tyler Nafe
- Deadly Penance Day by Ben Burns
- Trouble Brewing Advanced Mode
- High Stakes Betting by Navean
- Remembrance Week by Alejo
- The Horrifying Spectacle of Public Execution by Navean
- Creme De La Creme by Off Meta
- Trust by Milk – Script Competition Finalist
- Too Many Mayors by Sameer – Script Competition Finalist
- A selection of Teensyville Scripts
Running events with less than 7 players
If you’re scheduled to storytell a game that currently has less than 7 players, never fear! You can simply recruit pickup game players to complete your game! Simply grab a palm tree!
Look for the Palm Tree!
Regular con-goers may be familiar with the orange cones or sometimes flags – the method by which gamers can signal to other gamers ‘Hey! We need people! We have open spots in our game!’ Well Clocktower Con has the same idea – but it’s an inflatable Palm Tree! Take a vacation to Clocktower Con and look for the palm tree if you’re looking to hop into a game on the fly!
Pickup Game Guidelines
Whether it’s your 1st game, or your 501st, we welcome you to take advantage of the open circle space to run games! Below we’ve listed out some guidelines to keep things fair and fun for everyone.
Please don’t monopolize circle space.
After each game, make sure there is no one else waiting to Storytell before running another game.
Meet your players where they’re at.
We recommend asking players what their skill level is to ensure they’re ready for the game you plan to Storytell. A quick poll of game experience can help you warn newer players of an advanced script or special rule.
Kill with Grace and Die with Dignity.
Everyone comes from different play groups and has different ideas of fun–whether you prefer puzzles, crazy lies, or social reading–no matter the meta, remember that the game is about fun and encourage everyone to treat others with consideration and respect.
